Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge on Monday night to take on Chelsea, with both sides boosted in their bids for Champions League football next season.
Red Devils are currently ninth in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth-placed Blues, who will be looking to beat the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the first time since May 2018.
Chelsea are near enough full-strength, with only Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek the significant absentees with both players are nearing a potential return to full fitness while Tammy Abraham is also a slight doubt through a minor ankle injury.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Kepa returns to the Blues’ starting lineup, given the Spaniard was dropped last time out.Solskjaer’s injury list is significantly longer, with Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, and Axel Tuanzebe all unavailable to the Norwegian but Odion Ighalo could make his Manchester United debut at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United lead the overall head-to-head 80 wins to Chelsea’s 54, while there have also been 51 draws between the two teams throughout history.
The Blues hasn’t beaten the Red Devils in their last five encounters in all competitions.
Both sides have shown inconsistency recently, generally excelling in cup competitions while struggling in the league as Chelsea have failed to continue their momentum from the early stages of the campaign, and are now without a league win in three games; losing 1-0 to Newcastle and drawing with Arsenal and Leicester 2-2.
Manchester United have been similarly unpredictable, having failed to win any of their last three matches, including disappointing 2-0 defeats to rivals Liverpool and struggling Burnley.
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard on dropping Kepa Arrizabalaga last weekend: “It wasn’t about giving him a jolt. It was just a selection on that day.
“I want everyone’s reaction spot on. I know how it will feel for him. I had it in my career, it is part and parcel. I am pleased with the reaction.”
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on how quickly Odion Ighalo can have an impact: “As a striker you get thrown on out there and it might be he’ll have to come off the bench, give us a goal and he does whatever he does.”
Chelsea possible starting lineup: Kepa; James, Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta; Kante, Jorginho; Willian, Mount, Hudson-Odoi; Abraham.
Manchester United possible starting lineup: De Gea; Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Matic, Williams; Fernandes; Martial, James.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Manchester United
