I urged Liverpool to sell Mohamed Salah in the summer and buy Kylian Mbappe or Jadon Sancho says former Premier League striker Darren Bent.

The Egypt international is currently Red Devils top scorer this season with 18 goals in all competitions and is in line to lead the club to their first-ever Premier League title in the 30 years after playing an instrumental role in their Champions League triumph last term.

Liverpool have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain star and 2019 FIFA World Cup winner Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund forward Sancho in the past year and would have to break the bank to land either player end of the season.

However, ex-Tottenham Hotspurs and England striker Bent believes Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are more important to Liverpool than Salah, who could be sold to fund a move for Mbappe or Sancho as he told talkSport.

Two Golden Boots, Player of the Season, Champions League winner, about to be a Premier League winner, the accolades are there.

“But when you look at his general play to say someone like Mane, I’d have to say Mane’s been better than him.”He may score more goals than Mane, but Mane’s work-rate for the team, he’s unselfish, always looks for others first, he’ll get his fair share of goals. So you can’t sell Mane, he’s so important.

“Firmino, we know he doesn’t score that many goals, but he’s the glue, he links it all together. His hold-up play is arguably one of the best in the league. He brings players in, holds on to the ball, he’s fantastic.’

Salah has found back of the net on 89 occasion in 137 appearances since moving to Anfield in a £34million deal from AS Roma in 2017.
