Nigerian descent Eniola Aluko appointed as Aston Villa’s first women Sporting Director in which her appointment takes immediate effect.
The 32-year-old, who retired as a player last week after spells at Birmingham City, Chelsea, Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat, Sky Blue FC and Juventus, will oversee the club’s women’s team.
Aluko completed UEFA’s Executive Master for International Players and has been preparing for a second career as a director of football with her aim to carry Aston Villa to gain promotion to the Women’s Super League who are currently three points clear top of the Championship.
The Lagos-born the club official website she said: “I’m very excited to transition into a Sporting Director role.
“I feel it’s something that I’m ready for at this point in my career. I’ve always been passionate about the women’s game, its development and setting cultures that drive excellence.
